Getting to know UCLA

2012 Record: 9-5, 6-3 Pac-12

Pac-12 finish: Lost in conference title game to Stanford

Key win: Defeated USC 38-28

Key loss: Blown out 43-17 at California

Bowl game: Lost 49-26 to Baylor in the Holiday Bowl

Starters returning: 11

Player to watch (offense): Quarterback Brett Hundley, who completed 66.5 percent of his passes and threw 29 touchdowns while also running for nine scores last year.

Player to watch (defense): Linebacker Anthony Barr, a second-team All-American who had 13 Ĺ sacks (second nationally) and forced four fumbles.

Last game

UCLA torched Nevada for 345 rushing yards and 302 through the air in a 58-20 opening night win two weeks ago. The Bruins actually led just 17-13 at halftime, but they quickly pulled away in the third quarter. Hundley was responsible for four touchdowns. UCLA is coming off a bye week.

Remember him?

Husker fans who keep close tabs on the high school prospects considering Nebraska will recognize a few names on UCLA's roster Saturday. Receiver Devin Fuller might be the most prominent of the bunch. He's the top slot receiver, having caught four passes for 39 yards against Nevada. Other former Husker targets on the depth chart: cornerback Priest Willis, center Scott Quessenberry and defensive end Eddie Vanderdoes.

Owa out

Speaking of the NU recruiting targets who got away, defensive lineman Owamagbe Odighizuwa won't play Saturday. He may not play all season. He underwent two hip surgeries this summer.

Dealing with tragedy

UCLA redshirt freshman receiver Nick Pasquale died Sunday after being struck by a car in San Clemente, Calif. He was 20. Pasquale played on the Bruins' scout team and did appear in the season's first game. The Bruins will wear his number, 36, on patches on their jerseys Saturday against the Huskers, whose helmets will have a decal with the No. 36. NU walk-on receiver Christian Bailey is a year younger, but he played with Pasquale at San Clemente High School. There will be a moment of silence before kickoff. A memorial service for Pasquale is scheduled for Sunday afternoon in San Clemente.
