Holy Cross Irish Festival 5K is Saturday

The Holy Cross Catholic Church in Omaha is hosting a 5K fun run during the Holy Cross Irish Festival on Saturday.

The event is part of the two-day festival that celebrates the large local Irish population and raises money for the parish.

The course begins and ends at the church, near 49th Street and Woolworth Avenue. The course winds through the Morton Meadows neighborhood, and organizers warn it is a bit hilly. In the leprechaun division, runners are required to wear green and dress as the tiny, mischievous men of Irish folklore.

Register for $20 between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Saturday on the north steps of Holy Cross School at 48th and Woolworth Streets. The race starts at 8 a.m.
