Orpheum ticket sales 12th highest among world's top 100 theaters

The Orpheum Theater in Omaha was ranked 12th of the world's top 100 theater venues for ticket sales in the first quarter of 2013, according to Pollstar, a trade publication that tracks entertainment ticket sales.

The Orpheum, managed by Omaha Performing Arts, sold 73,594 tickets in the year's first quarter, up from 65,067 in that quarter a year ago.

Events at the Orpheum during the quarter included 24 of the 32 performances of the Broadway tour of "The Lion King," which sold a total of 79,000 seats during its stay in Omaha. The Broadway tour of "Memphis" also played the Orpheum during the quarter.

CenturyLink Center Omaha also appeared on Pollstar's first quarter lists. The venue was ranked No. 44 among arena venues worldwide with 64,461 tickets sold. Concerts during that time included Jeff Dunham, Zac Brown Band, Maroon 5, Kid Rock and two performances by Taylor Swift.
